My Thoughts on the 2019 Met Gala

Hey everyone! I am back with another blogpost and I am here to talk about the fashion pinnacle, The Met Gala. I must say… I am impressed. I was so impressed by many of the looks for tonight and a lot of celebs showed up for this year’s theme. The theme for this year is Camp: Notes on Fashion which is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on ‘Camp’, which is credited to have introduced the concept of ‘Camp’ to the mainstream. Although, to me, camp was originated in the black queer culture many eons ago. According to the Harper’s Bazaar, “The concept was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

I included a few pictures of what would fit into the camp theme. The common theme with all of these looks is the over-extravagance and gaudiness. The maximumalistic makeup, hair, embellishments, hats, scarves, color schemes, and just everything that screams “MORE IS MORE!” This year’s Met definitely surprised me and I am going to include some of my fave looks below.

  1. Kendall & Kylie Jenner

THEY CARRIEDTTTTT!!! I love the gaudy color scheme. The brash orange and blush purple compliment each other so well. The makeup is on point, the hair is just right and I especially love how they gave Kendall a dramatic cowlick on her forehead. Kylie’s look really gave me Lil’ Kim 1999 VMA vibes yakno. The feathers, frill and fur, I am just in AWE! Donatella Versace did a marvelous job with these ladies. Well done! A+!

Now… I must admit at first glance I was not in love with this look. I thought it was going to be another tight-fitted dress from Kim, but when I got a closer look and noticed that this was as if Kim jumped out of the pool with a wet T-shirt and onto the carpet. I am in love with this. I love the concept and Mugler did an excellent job executing the “California girl out of the beach and onto the Met red carpet” concept. Well done!

3. Gigi Hadid

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This is so lit yo! She followed the theme to the tea man! I love this! The eyeshadow, the bodysuit, helmet, hair, and just everything!

4. Cardi B

Cardi is on her way to becoming a true fashion staple. Kollin, who is her stylist, dresses her to the nines everytime and he is one of the best things that could have ever happened to her. “The embodiment of the female figure to the 10th power”. I love it!

5. Nicki Minaj

Now, I looovee Nicki, but I was expecting something THEATRICAL! I wanted so much more dawg omgg! I wanted a dramatic corset! I wanted a crazy wig, I am talking about week’s worth of talking about it wig. I wanted some avant-garde fashion with a regal entrance. However, I really think that Nick doesn’t care about events like these anymore. I think she just wants to do her music and that’s it. Which is very fair. She has a beautiful face though.

6. Emily Ratajkowski

Listen, I am going to wrap this up, but Emily carried. These butterfly ears are stunning. She is already breathtaking, but the gown, body, jewels. Everything is just gorgeous. I am in love.

But, guys I just didn’t want to hold you on too long, but these were my special few and I had posted so much on my Instastory, but I really wanted to give you all a snippet of thoughts. But, overall I lived for all the looks. They carried. But, please tell me what you all thought. Who impressed you? Who disappointed you? Let me know in the comments below. Love you guys!
