Unsung. Unappreciated. Unrecognized. Unpraised. Unsung is a very lowkey show that comes on TVOne. It comes on Sundays at 9/8 Central. This show really puts the spotlight and gives shine to musical artists that really didn’t get the accolades and recognition during their careers. Now, Unsung has done a great job at documenting some unrecognized talented artists like Phyllis Hyman, Fat Joe and Jagged Edge. However, I feel like they have missed so many spots because so many people have contributed to the advancement of music. I want to talk about more artists who I feel are extremely talented yet unsung. I first want to start off with the singer Mya.
Beauty. Brains. Singing ability. Dancing ability. Attitude. Personality. This woman has it all. Mya Harrison (Mya) was born in Washington, D.C. on October 10, 1979. The crazy thing is she still looks the same! She was born to an Italian mother and a Jamaican father. Mya talked about how it was difficult growing up being multicultural.
So Mya did have some struggles but there was one thing she loved: performing. She really liked Michael Jackson and if you ask me she is one of the few artists that can successfully give him a great tribute. Her dancing and singing is so impressive and unique to her. The breathy vocals and sultry cadence just comes natural to Mya. Check her out:

Mya has hits under her belt like “It’s All About Me,” “Movin On” and “My First Night With You” “Ghetto Superstar”, “Take Me There”, “Case of the Ex”, “Free” and “Best of Me”. In May 2001, Mýa collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, P!nk and Missy Elliot on a remake of LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade”, which is featured in Baz Luhrman’s “Moulin Rouge.” She also came out with “Fallen” (which I love) and “My Love is Like…Woo” (which has to be my favorite Mya song of all time. The visuals, her tap dancing, singing and beat just ahhhh. Love.)
You’re in love right?! She’s incredible and I am just so sad that the entire world doesn’t know how talented she is. She gives us consistent bops, looks and great live shows. She isn’t slouching though. She is still coming out with new music, she is vegan (her skin just glows!) and she looks exactly the same. If you ask me, with the right team and support she can give Beyoncé a run for her money.
By the way guys do y’all like this UnSung Music Story Edition? Do you guys want me to continue with this series? Should I be more thorough with my research? Leave some suggestions on some artists that I should cover. Thanks for listening y’all.
